Satjeet and Geetesh–Beautiful Indian Wedding at Arden Hills, Sacramento

I was thrilled to have the chance to photograph Satjeet and Geetesh’s gorgeous Indian wedding at Arden Hills Country Club in Sacramento. They had a marathon day – starting at 7 am and finishing up around 11 pm (well, that’s when WE finished… I think the party was still in full swing for another couple of hours!) – but despite the long day, everyone was full of energy, smiles and happiness. They even had two different ceremonies – a Hindu and Sikh ceremony, back to back. And, as is always the case with Indian weddings, the food was AMAZING. Luckily for my assistant Stacey and I, we had plenty of calories to carry us through the day. Satjeet and Geetesh’s family and friends were obviously so happy for them, and it was great to see such a wonderful community there to support them and celebrate their day with them. It was quite a sight watching the whole group parade around the Arden Hills parking lot, with Geetesh on horseback, to be greeted and welcomed by Satjeet’s family. Thanks again for letting us be a part of this wonderful event!

Neal and Janine–Seaside Wedding in Carmel

I was really happy to have the chance to photograph this wedding. I met Neal and Janine just a couple of months ago when they hired me to do engagement photos. After the session, we were chatting and discovered that Neal and I grew up in neighboring towns in New Jersey and graduated high school one year apart, so we knew some of the same people from the “old neighborhood.” And of course, being a nice Jewish boy from New Jersey, I was delighted when they asked me to shoot their Jewish wedding in Carmel, CA. The event was beautiful and Janine and Neal’s friends and family were a blast – the dancing was off the hook, with some impressive moves from both sides of the family. And of course, the Hora is always a good time. Throw in a quick photo session on a nearby beach, and it was the perfect day for my penultimate wedding of the season. Thanks to my second shooter Jeannie for her able assistance (and chauffeuring!)

Ruth and Jay’s beautiful Jewish wedding in Davis, CA–Mazel Tov!

Ruth and Jay had a beautiful wedding ceremony at the Alumni Center at UC Davis and I was so glad to be able to photograph it. They are so clearly in love and such a happy couple – non-stop smiles all around! And it was obvious to see where they got it from, since their family was every bit as happy. I loved all the different aspects of the Jewish ceremony, and especially the fact that the Chuppah was constructed by Jay’s dad – what a guy! It was a beautiful day and I wish the couple a hearty MAZEL TOV!

Jason and Vivien – Stylish San Francisco Wedding

I had a great time with Vivien and Jason on their dual engagement sessions, so was really looking forward to their wedding, and I was not disappointed! Vivien and her bridesmaids got ready at the Intercontinental Mark Hopkins Hotel before heading over to the beautiful St. Dominic’s church, which is just a couple of blocks away from where Jason and Vivien live. So I took the opportunity to leave my second shooter Stacey to finish covering the girls getting ready while I went over to Jason and Vivien’s apartment to spend some time with the boys before walking over to the church. Jason is a San Francisco firefighter, and was lucky enough to have the SFFD chaplain perform their full mass ceremony. The reception was at The City Club and was definitely one of the loveliest receptions I’ve shot. Vivien spent tons of time preparing the details and it really paid off. The place settings, lighting, cake decorations – everything really came together. And of course the party was something special – those firefighters really know how to blow off some steam. As a special surprise bonus, Jason’s buddies from Engine 13 swung by and we got to sneak outside for a few minutes to take some photos with the truck. Stacey and I had a great time – big thanks to Jason and Vivien for including us in their special day.

Amy & Tyler – Pedaling towards a happy future…

It’s been a while since I updated this blog, mostly because I’ve been so busy shooting! I’ve done pretty much all of my engagement sessions for my 2011 couples in the last 4 weeks, along with trips to Las Vegas and Miami to shoot photos for the CrossFit Sports series. So it’s been a busy, but fun-filled couple of months of photography! But I couldn’t let this session go by without a proper blog tribute, since it was a special session for me. I met Amy about five years ago when I joined the UC Davis triathlon team. I think she was around 19 at the time… We spent many hours on our bikes together, during which time Amy would often talk about her wish to find the “right guy.” Before too long I heard her start talking about this awesome, cute, super talented cyclist named Tyler… and now, a few years later… they’re engaged! I’m so excited to have the honor to shoot their wedding in September and this session was a great preview of what a fun-loving, happy couple they are. It’s times like this that remind me how special it is to be able to capture these joyful moment’s in my clients’ lives!

Great Scots! Jen and Doug’s wedding at the Lake Natoma Inn, Folsom

You know it’s going to be a fun wedding when the groomsman are wearing kilts. Jen and Doug’s wedding at the Lake Natoma Inn did not disappoint! Everyone was decked out in their finest Scottish regalia, and there was even a haggis (which provided an opportunity for a truly inspired recitation of Robert Burns’ Address to a Haggis). The skirts didn’t stop the men from dancing up a storm, and everyone had a blast at the reception. There were lots of smiles all around, with the biggest ones coming from Jen and Doug. Thanks for letting my second shooter Julia and I be a part of the festivities, and slàinte mhath to both of you (I hope I got that right…)

Daniel and Yolanda – Go Cal!

After spending a really fun engagement session wandering their cute Berkeley neighborhood and around campus, I was looking forward to returning to Berkeley for Daniel and Yolanda’s wedding. The ceremony was at the Lawrence Hall of Science, and it was a beautiful clear day, with great views of the bay. The reception was on the UC Berkeley campus (where Daniel is a physicist studying Very Cold Things). We couldn’t help but have a wonderful time with Yolanda and Dan – they were very laid back and relaxed and obviously make a great couple. Their ceremony was nice and personal – officiated by Daniel’s brother, and with some great readings by friends and family (including my personal favorite "My Rules" by Shel Silverstein). And, just like during their engagement session, the smiles were non-stop, on them as well as their guests. As always, the photo booth was a big hit, especially with Dan’s father, who got to pose with all of Yolanda’s volleyball teammates. Thanks to Daniel and Yolanda for allowing my second shooter Stacy and I to be a part of such a fantastically fun event!

Shelly and Ryan – Wedding in the Woods – Evergreen Lodge

When Shelly told me she was getting married just outside Yosemite, at the Evergreen Lodge, near Hetch Hetchy – I knew I had to shoot her wedding… and I’m so glad I got the chance! The location was beautiful and the wedding was a blast. Shelly and Ryan were so much fun, and the abundance of adorable children always makes our job easier. Shelly was given away by her eight year old son, which was especially touching. They also had a live band, and did their first dance to In Spite of Ourselves, by John Prine – my new all-time favorite first dance song. All their friends and families had a blast dancing the night away under the evergreens, and my second shooter Stacy and I were honored and excited to be part of such a wonderful day.

Mary and Dave – Wedding at the San Francisco Golf Club

I really enjoyed Mary and Dave’s engagement session in Sacramento – Mary had all sorts of fun ideas and Dave was a good sport – always a great sign! Dave’s grandfather is a member of the San Francisco golf club so they had the privilege of getting married at this exclusive and elegant venue which only hosts a handful of weddings each year. My second shooter Julia and I had lots of fun shooting the girls getting ready. Mary has some talented friends who were able to help her out with her makeup so we were able to get some great shots of everyone preparing. Meanwhile, the guys enjoyed hanging out in the swanky men’s locker room and bar (though they seemed a bit disappointed that they didn’t get to play a few rounds before the ceremony.) The ceremony was lovely, with Mary’s father dressed up in his Navy uniform to give her away in style. And of course the reception did not disappoint, with lots of fun and dancing for everyone. We were able to sneak away for a few night-time shots on the golf course, and I’m glad we did! Thanks to Mary and Dave for including us in this special event.

Molly and Danny – Wedding at the Dante Club, Sacramento

My second shooter Stacey and I had a great time shooting Molly and Danny’s reception at the Dante Club after their ceremony at Sacred Heart Parish in Sacramento. But before we made it to the church, we really enjoyed spending some time with the bride and her 5 bridesmaids, 5 junior bridesmaids and an adorable flower girl. That’s right… 11 women and girls packed into one hotel suite – a fun way to start the wedding day! We got some great shots of the girls getting ready before heading over to the church to do some quick pre-ceremony shots with Danny and the boys. The church is really beautiful, and the reception at the Dante Club was tons of fun. As always, the photo booth was a big hit and yielded some great shots. Everyone had a great time, dancing it up and enjoying themselves. Thanks to Molly and Danny for letting us be a part of your big day!
